Int'l Wine Review
Review Date: 05/2020The 2009 Haut-Brion is an utterly magical wine that delivers on every level and my even be the finest wine from this epic vintage. Composed of 46% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 14% Cabernet Franc, this instantly impresses as it displays a gorgeous brooding red color, followed by incredibly expressive aromatics of ripe blackberries and dark plums, which are accented by cedar, cinnamon, smoked meat, smoldering tobacco and mocha nuances. The palate is hedonistic and inundates the senses with purple plums, sweet berries, cloves and a kiss of milk chocolate. It ends with a whiff of burnt ember and sweet tobacco with a finish that replays all the flavors and remains persistent for at least a minute. This a legendary wine and will forever go down in Haut-Brion lore. (JD)

100 points Lisa Perrotti-Brown for Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Haut-Brion is deep garnet colored and slightly closed and shy to begin, slowly unfurling to reveal sensuous notions of warm blackberries, plum preserves, mulberries and blackcurrant cordial with touches of star anise, mocha and damp soil. Full-bodied, taut and tightly wound in the mouth, the palate delivers mouth-coating black fruit and mineral layers with a very firm frame of ripe, grainy tannins, finishing long and earthy. This needs time!" (03/2019)
