Bright apple tartine nose. Palate gives fine bubbles and a taste of brioche. Beautiful finish. A tremendous Champagne for the price!

Incredibly, a magnum of Baron-Fuente is priced lower than some bigger name 750 ml bottles of Champagne – the value is almost unbelievable! Concentrated fruit with a hint of spice, luxurious toastiness, and creamy finish, this Meunier-based Champagne is both expressive and easygoing, with more pronounced acidity in this larger format. And while there’s technically better aging potential to the 1.5L, it’s tough to keep this cellared when it’s so exciting (and affordable) to pop at a party.

This is the best value I've ever see from Champagne. The quality from this flagship of Marne producer Baron Fuente is unbelievable for the price. It has beautiful expressive flavors of apricot, Gala apples, and honeysuckle with a touch of spice and herbs and a rich, subtly toasty creaminess on a finish that just keeps going and going. What a value on such a crowd pleaser!

Notes

Baron-Fuenté is a négociant that owns almost 90 acres of vines and purchases another 90 acres "sur pied," meaning that they pick the grapes. This is an important distinction as many négociants buy "sur lattes," meaning in bottle! This delicious Champagne is composed of 10% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay, and 60% Meunier and has been aged three years on the lees. It is fermented at relatively cold temperatures in stainless steel with 100% malolactic fermentation. The wine has a very light, white-gold color for the blend, which is predominantly black grapes and a very pretty, tight bead. On the nose it is flowery and exotic, with a doughy richness to anchor down the wildflower elements. On the palate the wine is well balanced, light and finishes very cleanly. This Champagne is a spectacular aperitif. The current batch is 40% reserve wines and dosed at 9 grams per liter. (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne buyer)
