The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Pritchard Hill is a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Petit Verdot and 10% Malbec. Deep garnet colored, it takes a little swirling and coaxing to reveal a core of blackcurrant pastilles, new leather, baker's chocolate and preserved Morello cherries with hints of cigar box, incense, cinnamon stick and truffles plus a waft of olive bread. The full-bodied palate is taut, muscular and profound, with layers of tight-knit earth, savory and black fruit preserves flavors and a firm, grainy texture, finishing long and mineral laced. This still needs a bit of time. (LPB)

Int'l Wine Review

Review Date: 08/2012
The 2009 Chappellet Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Pritchard Hill is beautiful and elegant with loads of fresh black and red fruits, floral, crushed rock with some hints of licorice and toasty notes. The fine-grained, very firm tannins provide the excellent structure and depth. Everything finishes long, chewy and fresh. This wine should thrive in the cellar. Composed of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Petit Verdot, 10% Malbec. (JD)

Connoisseurs Guide

Review Date: 08/2012
If years away from showing anything remotely like elegance and most definitely not a wine that will win the hearts of those whose prize restraint above all else, this deep, fully realized youngster combines richness with lavish, blackcurrant fruit that marks Napa Valley Cabernet at its best. Big and bold and very full on the palate with plenty of gritty young tannins, it is a generous and wonderfully well-focused wine of enormous potential. It demands a half-decade of age at the least, and it will be in fine form some twenty years from now. *Three Stars*

Dark and saturated in color, this has earthy and meaty aromas like bloody, rare steak and charred bone—that sort of protein-ous spirit. The actual fruit flavor is incredibly rich and concentrated in blackberries, black currants and crisp bacon. The impression is of a sweet, delicious Cabernet that’s a touch warm in alcohol, but lush and refined.

Notes

96 points, Antonio Galloni -- Vinous: "The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Pritchard Hill is a wine that should only be bought by the very patient. An infant today, the 2009 is all about promise and potential. The wine possesses stunning depth and concentration, with fabulous balance and tons of personality. The only thing it needs is time. This dark, brooding Cabernet Sauvignon is a lot to look forward to." (12/2012)
