The 2009 Meyney is a step up from Haut-Marbuzet and Lafon-Rochet on the nose: blackberry, raspberry, crushed stone, forest floor and a hint of pain d’épices - wonderful definition and intensity. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannin, very well judged acidity. Good grip and quite stocky/broad-shouldered in style with a persistent but at the moment, still a tightly wound finish. This is impressive and when its identity is revealed - cue gasps from the audience. Go buy. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners’ 2009 Bordeaux tasting. (NM)

Green olives, spices and currants on the nose. Full body, with velvety tannins and a juicy finish. Lovely layers of ripe tannins and ripe fruit.

I clearly underrated this wine from barrel. The finest wine made at this estate since 1982, this opaque black wine is a sleeper of the vintage, with oodles of blackberry fruit interwoven with hints of charcoal, forest floor, licorice and damp earth. Deep, rich, chewy, full-bodied and opulent, this is a fabulous Meyney that, because of its low acidity and very ripe tannin. Bravo! (RP)

Deep crimson-black hue. Ripe and bold with a generous quantity of lush, dark fruit. Cassis, blueberry and menthol notes. Palate dense and firm with plentiful but integrated tannins. Bit of warmth on the finish. Lots to enjoy now but still plenty in the tank. (JL) 17/20 points

The 2009 vintage has entered a delightful and approachable phase in its life for immediate consumption after pouring. Upon opening, the nose boasts generous fruits and a hint of gravel. Cherry jubilee, baker's chocolate wash over the palate, followed by warm baking spice and subtle scrubland herbs. The spicy but well-integrated tannins would compliment a rich, hearty meal perfectly, though could be enjoyed just as easily sitting at home on a cold night curled up by a warm fire. Once opened, it continues to evolve, showcasing the refined rusticity that the St Estephe commune is best known for. It just might be the perfect bottle to enjoy during this holiday season. Cheers!

Big, complex and richly oaked. If this wine could be described in action: You are eating chocolate covered cherries in a hilly, heavily wooded forest, and suddenly you see a fox dash across your path that pulls you like a magnet down the hill, but suddenly you are tumbling instead of chasing and your body kicks up mounds of wet earth and when you finally reach the bottom you are unharmed and the fox is licking at your hands inviting you to take another drink of this fantastic wine. Age this wine, drink this wine now, pair it with rich fatty foods and you'll be as happy as a fox.

I really am fond of this property. Classic Left Bank Bordeaux, lots of dark, smokey, gravelly fruit, graphite, cigar box. This is quite a ripe, soft rendition of Meyney but I am sure it will still age beautifully into its twenties.
