A small boutique producer with an obvious talent for sourcing top grade fruit and crafting it into a very stylish Napa cab. This wine has great aromatics rich with plums, blackcurrant and vanilla on the nose. The palate is equally packed with bright fruit; blackberries, cassis and sweet baking spices. Some coffee or mocha notes on back and savory hints of cedar that help balance the lushness of the fruit. The wine is showing great purity and focus indicative of the ’09 vintage. When you consider this is sourced from top vineyards in St. Helena and Howell Mountain at this price it’s a real steal!

A plush, highly drinkable cabernet sauvignon from our friends at Amici Cellars. Using fruit from Howell Mountain, winemaker Joel Aiken weaves his magic into this wine. Joel was the winemaker at BV for 36 years, and studied with the late, great André Tchelistcheff. The care and precision of his winemaking skills is quite clear here. Lush red and black fruit, mineral, with fine, well-integrated tannin and balanced acidity. A great small production wine. Thanks, friends!

Great wine in a sea of wine. This small Family run winery has long been a favorite of the staff here at K&L. Sometimes forgotten among the deluge of Napa Cab's in the store, this is very well made wine and drinks along with any of the wines fetching a hundred dollars are more. Dark and dense fruit, black berries and blue berries, are envleoped in soft, velvety tannins. Give this wine a try.

Notes

The 2009 Amici Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon was selected from vineyards on Howell Mountain and in St. Helena. The 2009 vintage presented a perfect summer growing season, but it was October separated the men from the boys at the wineries. Unlike many (and usually more expensive) producers that pushed the hangtime of their grapes, Amici picked their grapes at peak ripeness before torrential rains compromised and diluted many of the neighbors' crops. A blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot, and 6% Petit Verdot, this Cabernet can be described as having a nose of blackberry, coffee, and vanilla with a palate showing casiss, caramel, and mocha.
