2009 Maison Jacques Bavard Bourgogne Rouge

2009 Maison Jacques Bavard Bourgogne Rouge

Review Date: 05/2012

Once people started trying this wine, it started to disappear by the case. This has been my favorite ’09 Bourgogne Rouge that I have tried. It is bright and has that super sexy ’09 fruit but instead of being all flash, there is decent structure and touch of minerality. This is a wine to buy the case and hopefully you can ration it out, because those last few bottles are going to be the best of the case!

The yummiest bottle of Pinot at this price in the store.

A great example of how good and drinkable the 2009 vintage has shown. This wine has much more depth of fruit and a finer structure. I am always slightly leery of Pinot under 20, this delivers nuance and intrigue for a very modest price.

Notes

This is delightful and fresh, with a bit more structure than some of the 2009 Pinot Noirs, thanks to some vines from "les Champans" in the commune of Puligny, always known for minerality and drive. As a friend likes to say, it punches WAY above its weight class. Try some and see why we are so excited to have it available at such a modest price, thanks to our direct import program. -Keith Wollenberg, K&L Burgundy Buyer
