The 2009 Gouges Les St. Georges is a profound young wine. The kaleidoscopically complex nose delivers a brilliant mélange of red and black cherries, pomegranate, plenty of blood orange, raw cocoa, woodsmoke, gamebirds, a touch of lead pencil and a beautiful topnote of violets. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very, very pure on the attack, with flawless balance, a sappy, bottomless core, stunning complexity, fine-grained tannins and a multi-faceted, brilliantly focused and near perfect long finish. As fine a young wine from Domaine Gouges as I have ever had the pleasure to taste, the 2009 Les St. Georges is a legend in the making.

A much more elegant nose of red berry fruit, plum and warm earth aromas trimmed in subtle wood spice notes merges into very generous and seductively textured flavors that possess an attractive trace of minerality that continues onto the strikingly complex and superbly long and mouth coating finish. This is blessed with copious amounts of mid-palate sap and the balance is impeccable which should allow this to age magnificently well. *Sweet Spot Outstanding*

The 2009 Nuits St. Georges Les St. Georges reveals gorgeous delineation to balance its rich, intense fruit. From a structural standpoint it is the most inward and reticent of the 2009s I tasted from bottle. There is plenty to admire here, including a textured finish that is incredibly appealing. (AG)

A coulis of red fruits on the nose, complicated by notes of menthol, licorice and chocolatey torrefaction; a bit more medicinal than mineral today. At once velvety-sweet and powerful; very large-scaled and chewy for this wine. Sound acidity gives shape and grip to the flavors and serious mouthdusting tannins call for a solid decade of cellaring. Very different in style from the more minerally, perfumed 2010, but these two wines track their vintages accurately. (ST)
