It's hard to appreciate just what a stupendous value this tequila is until 1) you know who made it 2) you realize who bottled it 3) you actually taste it! Both are two of the tequila industry's finest gentlemen. They know they've got some really special stuff here and many of this distillery's bottlings of equivalent quality sell for WELL above this price point. Whether it's the result of a long friendship or some serious business cajones, Artenom has managed to get this magnificently packaged Anejo on the shelf for less than $100. The perfect gift for a real aficionado who isn't swayed by pricey add campaigns or marketing, but simply wants the best agave, distilled by the best tequilero, for a reasonable price. It is indeed, all those things and much much more.

It is tough in the tequila world to find small production, unique expressions of terroir and artful distillation, but that is exactly what the arte nom line of tequilas is all about. They each come from a single plantation of agave and a single distillery. They are all wonderful, but I'm an anejo guy, and this beauty is rich and lush with wonderful oaky notes over pure citrus flavors. If you're a real tequila fan- you have to try this.

Notes

Casa Tequileña is owned and operated by Enrique Fonesca, known as El Arquitecto, a fifth-generation grower and master distiller who holds one of the largest plots of agave in the industry. This añejo is made to showcase oak without overshadowing the agave. The nose is amazing! It's subdued and begs to be coaxed, but incredible when it finally arrives with nutty aromas and toasted vanilla, neither too rich nor oaky. Warm baking spices follow on the palate, which is incredibly lean for an añejo! Black pepper and fruit show on the finish, along with more roasted nuts. Divine! This is a blend of two- and three-year-old tequilas aged exclusively in French oak barrels, then blended and aged for at least another year in American oak barrels seasoned with red wine. 95 points Beverage Testing Institute: "Amber color. Aromas of peanut brittle, ripe apple, flamed orange, cafe latte, leather, foraged mushrooms, and brown butter with a chewy, lively, dry-yet-fruity medium-to-full body and a peppery, very complex, very long spiced peach chutney, luxury tobacco, and red tea finish. A flavor-packed, cognac-like Añejo tequila with delicate fruity nuance and big toasty brawn." *Best Añejo Tequila* (04/2019)
