One of a trio of new gins from this artisan distiller, this gin's claim to fame is that it was inspired by a hike on Mt. Tam, and the distiller describes it as akin to 'drinking a martini in a pine forest.' Some will find the juniper essence too strong, although it also reads as clean and bracing, and it's laced with a peppery finish. Botanicals include Douglas fir, fennel, bay laurel and sage. A portion of the profits from the gin are donated to support California wilderness. (KN)

What an exciting idea. Distill a gin using some botanicals from a local area. The St. George Terrior Mt. Tam is more that a good project, it also tastes good and expands the bonderies of flavors for a gin. There are aromas of juniper and bay laurel that are followed by flavors of juniper, bay laural, sage and fir. A gin to think about and enjoy. Over the last ten years this has been on of our best selling gins because it is both delicious and unique.

Having read Melissa and David's reviews of this gin, I was excited but rather dubious in approaching it- how could it be so expressive of the terrior of Northern California? I poured it over ice, added some Fevertree Tonic water and a splash of lime and BAM! Hands down the most incredible experience of drinking in the landscape I love so much! Bay laurel, damp redwood, eucalyptus, wild fennel & dill- this California girl is enraptured!

Notes

Across the San Francisco Bay from K&L's Redwood City and San Francisco stores, St. George Spirits makes three gins: Botanivore Gin, Terroir Gin, and Dry Rye Gin. Needless to say, they are popular with our staff, and have scored well in Wine Enthusiast, as well. This Terroir Gin is an ode to the San Francisco Bay Area's Mount Tamalpais, a state park and wildlands area that towers over the Bay and is a favorite destination for hikers and mountain bikers. Douglas fir, California bay laurel, coastal sage, and other local botanicals contribute to a one-of-a-kind California terroir spirit. GQ Magazine has dubbed this "one of the most distinctive gins made in America."
