Notes
91 points and a best buy in Wines & Spirits: "A little sweeter and more candied than the Gran Dama reviewed above, this is full of fig flavors and black fruit that melt into the wildly tannic texture. Pour it with hefty meats or a ripe sheep’s milk cheese." (10/13/10). Fariña is one of the great names in Toro; in fact they were amongst the first estates to bottle their own wine here many years ago. With a touch of garnacha thrown in to this tempranillo based wine, and a brief eight months elevage in American oak, there is a dense and rich quality to this bottling. Concentrated and fat on the palate, with abundant dark fruits and an underlying earthy sweetness, it is truly a mouthful. Substantive, but totally approachable and drinking well now after several years of bottle age, this Fariña combines richer fruit with some gentle vanilla and oak spice, with moderate tannins on the finish. For fans of syrah and zinfandel, this rich and spicy red will deliver the goods in a big way.
