I had this last night as part of my grand "Revisit-the-Classics" effort to contextualize the ever expanding and confusing beer scene, and whoa, what a doozy! My favorite beers represent their styles well while avoiding straying from a balanced experience (looking at you American IPA scene). Sam Smith has been doing this since 1758, and is still around, so there must be something there. It has plenty of satisfying roasted malt flavors but also excellent fruit undertones, almond nuttiness and a crisp, clean finish. If you want a delicious, balanced and satisfying brown ale that doesn't cost as much as a bottle of wine, throw a few of these in your cart.
