2001 E. Guigal "La Mouline" Côte-Rôtie
97
Decanter
Review Date: 02/2022The nose is discreet but captivating on opening; it certainly speaks of Syrah and could only be Côte-Rôtie - it has that unmistakable finesse. Decidedly spicy, with layers of nutmeg and oak spice over tobacco and raspberry - really quite young still in fact. Only light-bodied, it’s still very smooth, well balanced and harmonious, with good, almost salty, citric acidity. It's dry but not dried out on the palate, and there's still a succulent core to the tannins. It’s drinking well and is arguably at its peak, but will continue on this plateau for some time. A deluxe Côte-Rôtie, which speaks of its place and the house which made it. (MW)
