Professor Fritz Briem "1809" Berliner Weisse, Germany (500ml.)

Review Date: 08/2017

Drinking the 1809 Berliner Weisse from Professor Fritz Briem brings takes me back to my first visit to Berilin, just before the wall came down. This refreshing, light, delicately fruity and subtly sour beer made me think of loud, smoky clubs in Kreuzberg. I might have to spin some Einstürzende Neubauten this weekend and drink a couple of these delicious brews!

Notes

In 1809, Napoleon and his troops identified Berliner Weisse as the Champagne of the North. He requested the beer be served w/syrup to cut its extreme level of acidity. This 1809 is a very traditional interpretation of the "Berliner Style" Weisse with an intense blend of lactic tartness and complex fruitiness. It is bottle-conditioned with lactobacillus delbrueckii, unfiltered and unpasteurized. "1809" will age beautifully in a dark and cool location. Its complex fruitiness and tartness will most likely develop in quite astonishing ways.
