"The ever energetic Anne Parent told me that 2005 wasn't a vintage where "you had to be a great winemaker to make great wine. I did absolutely nothing during the vinification except stand there and watch. The tannins are so refined and the colors extracted so easily that there really was nothing to do except monitor things to make sure that all was as it should be. Anyone that takes any more than modest credit for great '05s is failing to acknowledge the greatness of the raw materials Mother Nature provided us. We started picking on September 18th under perfect conditions and what's even better is that we had normal yields of around 40 hl/ha, partially because we had zero sorting losses. What I found to be remarkable was that 2005 had even more extractable solids than did 2003. Moreover, the '05s have the same marvelous balance as the '02s but more depth. I think 2005 is a great vintage and a great vintage from top to bottom." (Burghound, 04/07)
