Pastry, baked-apple and citrus aromas here. It’s medium-bodied, fresh and gently yeasty with fine bubbles. Nicely balanced.

A light, lively Champagne, with a pure note of crunchy green apple riding the lacy texture, accompanied by hints of almond skin, ground ginger and pink grapefruit pith. Modest finish. Pinot Meunier, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. (AN)

I have to stop being surprised by the excellent quality of this super well priced champagne. This fantastic bottle is aged for three years on the lees and has great honest toast from the aging process, as well as great refreshment from the high percentage of estate-grown vines used in the blend. I love this Champagne for its friendly, open-knit personality and its easygoing refreshment, but it has more than this for those who want to take the time to get to know it... It is a serious bottle of Champagne! Don't let the low price fool you!

Here's an honest Champagne that delivers elegance and pure delight without unnecessary pomp and posturing. Dry and refreshing, Baron Fuente Grande Réserve Brut Champagne is a blend of approximately 60% Meunier, 30% Chardonnay, and 10% Pinot Noir vinified in stainless steel and aged three years on the lees. Crisp green apple and lemon curd on toasty brioche - - zesty, yet rich and rewarding. There's a little bit of almond croissant on the finish, no doubt due to ample time maturing on its lees. Delicately textured, it's truly one of the best bubbles for the buck in the store - - perfect as an aperitif to greet guests or as a bottle to have chilling in the fridge at all times. Pop cork in case of emergency. Aaah...that's better. Cheers!

A bright, high-acid Champagne built on 40% reserve wine and 3–4 years on the lees. Bruised apple and orchard depth. Meunier-led with Chardonnay the lending lift. Magnums get 5 years on the lees and drink with noticeably more richness.

Notes

Baron-Fuenté is a négociant that owns almost 90 acres of vines and purchases another 90 acres "sur pied," meaning that they pick the grapes. This is an important distinction since many négociants buy "sur lattes," meaning in bottle! This delicious Champagne is composed of 10% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay, and 60% Meunier and had been aged three years on the lees. It is fermented at relatively cold temperatures in stainless steel with 100% malolactic fermentation. The wine has a very light, white-gold color for the blend, which is predominantly black grapes and a very pretty, tight bead. On the nose it is flowery and exotic, with a doughy richness to anchor down the wildflower elements. On the palate the wine is well-balanced, light, and finishes very clean. This Champagne is a spectacular aperitif. The current batch is 40% reserve wines and dosed at 9 grams per liter. (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne buyer)
