2005 Riglos Gran Malbec (Argentina)

2005 Riglos Gran Malbec (Argentina)

Review Date: 07/2008

This malbec is almost amethyst colored with tinges of ruby and a summer garden aroma redolent of violets and asters kissed by exotic Tahitian vanilla. Boysenberry and mulberry fruit are complemented by Nutella-like undertones framed by well-integrated, ripe tannins. The wine is fresh and enjoyable now, but definitely benefits from a little decanting.

Notes

According to the Wine Spectator: "Ripe and polished, with raspberry and boysenberry fruit that races along fine-grained tannins. Alluring finish lets licorice and fruitcake notes linger. Drink now through 2009. 590 cases made." (Web only, 2008) Made by Paul Hobbs, this Malbec smells like violets and actually a whole host of wild blue flowers with a beguiling note of vanilla. Persistent on the palate, with hazelnut and pistachio characters, this rich and long red would be super with grilled red meat!
