The focus here is on pineapple and apricot fruit. Citrus curd and lime zest run through the palate, and the clear sweetness is balanced by a zesty lift. It feels young and enticing even at 20 years old, and the colour retains a fresh sunflower gold, just starting to russet around the edges. Denis Dubourdieu had begun running Doisy-Daëne in 2000, taking over from his father Pierre, so this was his second vintage. Fermentation and ageing in barrel.

The Doisy Daene 2001 is still quite backward on the nose compared to its peers and as a consequence, demands more coaxing from the glass: beeswax, honeycomb and a touch of lanolin. The palate is well balanced with a vibrant, citrus-fresh entry. This Barsac is struck through with engaging, lovely orange peel and citrus lemon notes here that segue into a refined and tensile finish that leaves you wanting any sip. (NM)

Pale gold color. Deeply pitched aromas of honeysuckle, white flowers, minerals, menthol and licorice, with a pungent suggestion of Sauvignon Blanc. Chewy, dense and fat with fruit; complex, inviting flavors of nectarine, peach syrup, honeysuckle and licorice. Very stylish, long wine with a lingering flavor of peach. There's more going on here than in the 2002. (ST)

Wonderful concentration of ripe tropical fruit and botrytis spice. Full-bodied, sweet and very rich. It shows plenty of character and a honeyed aftertaste. Very pretty indeed. (JS)
