2001 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Review Date: 02/2005

The 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley (by the way, all of the Alexander Valley offerings are 100% Cabernet Sauvignon) has a big, sweet, oaky nose and a seductive panoply of spices from cedarwood to plum pudding and fruitcake notes. It is a sexy, sensual, broad, flavorful Cabernet lacking serious depth, but offering attractive fruit, plenty of ripeness, and a big wallop of American oak. (RP)

Notes

Silver Oak was founded to focus on Cabernet Sauvignon in 1972 by entrepreneur Raymond Twomey Duncan and winemaker Justin Meyer, and makes two key wines (one in the Sonoma AVA of Alexander Valley, and the other in Napa Valley). Recent tasting notes from the winery: "Our 2001 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon has an advanced and translucent color. It offers aromas of fresh spearmint, dried black cherry and freshly-tilled soil. It has a medium entry and body framed by strong tannins. It finishes with medium length and a juicy, lively acidity. Decanting suggested."
