Review Date: 12/2012Although Hors d'âge translates as the subtle phrase 'beyond age,' the contrary label trumpets that this brandy is aged 12 years. This seems apt as there's little subtlety about what's in the bottle either: rich, bulldozer-bold flavors ranging from buttery brioche to sweet caramel and toffee, braced up with notes of allspice and espresso on the surprisingly creamy and rich finish. Dark honey colored, aged for 12 years, Marie Duffau Hors d’Age is redolent of prune, raisins, and toffee, with flavors of figs and dates on the palate, and dry, walnut-like, rancio on the finish. A great value for such a young brandy. (JW)

Email MikeThis brandy is never out of my house - it's a delicious spirit at a great price. Duffau Armagnacs are almost rich enough to pass for Cognacs, with a lush, round texture and less spice than many Armagnacs. The age on the Hors d'Age shows well through its rich flavors, which are delicate but delicious.
