Some earthiness, but it opens to some good plum fruit character and a light toasted oak undertone. Medium body. Good tannins. Straightforward finish. Spicy. Slightly more stylish than the 2000. Best after 2007.

Medium red. Black cherry, licorice and herbs on the nose. Sweet, supple and vinous, with good verve and backbone. Here, too, the tannins are firm but not dry.
