The least expensive Cabernet Sauvignon is the outstanding 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa (which I assume was made from purchased fruit). It offers abundant aromas of white chocolate, black currants, loamy soil and hints of spice and earth. This textured, broad, simple Cabernet should continue to offer delicious, seductive drinking over the next decade. With nine separate offerings, all performing exceptionally well, Duckhorn Vineyards must be thrilled with the evolution of their 2001s. This is a terrific performance for these Duckhorn wines with most of them showing better than they did upon release - always a great sign. (RP)

Ruby-red. Very ripe aromas of currant, chocolate and tarry oak. Rich, juicy and aromatic, with varietally accurate flavors of currant, chocolate and tobacco leaf. Well-made cabernet, with good lift in the mouth. Finishes spicy, ripely tannic and fresh. (ST)

Supple and graceful, with ripe plum, black cherry, sage and herbal notes, it's well-crafted, with firm, dense, integrated tannins that veer to dryness. (JL)
