2001 Rasteau "Fleur de Confiance" Domaine la Soumade
Notes
92+ points Robert Parker: "Produced only in top vintages, the Rasteau Fleur de Confiance is one of those fabulous southern Rhone wines that still has not caught on with connoisseurs. Made from 100% Grenache with microscopic yields of 10-15 hectoliters per hectar, and aged in a combination of small barrels and tank, it is usually a blockbuster effort as well as one of the richest made in the southern Rhone. It is also among the most powerful and tannic, and can age for 15-20 years. The 2001...exhibits spicy new oak intermixed with hints of creosote, black currant liqueur, melted licorice, and blackberries. This enormously endowed, full throttle beauty is pure and textured. It needs 2-3 years of cellaring, and should last for 12-15 years." (02/04) K&L's notes - 100% old-vine grenache with 15% natural alcohol! This big Rhone is aged in new oak barrels and offers lots of toasty oak and raspberry aromas. This will cellar well for 10 years plus.
