James Suckling
Reviewed July 2022 Plenty of pinot character with strawberry and dried apple and some flint and matchstick, as well as stone. It’s medium- to full-bodied with freshness, a creamy texture and a long, delicious finish. 40% pinot meunier, 30% chardonnay and 30% pinot noir. 28% 2019 and the rest reserve wine going back to 2006. Dosage 3g/l.

Based on the 2018 vintage, Billecart's newly released NV Brut Réserve incorporates fully 53% reserve wines, up from just over a third in the past, and incorporates the usual 40% Pinot Meunier in the blend. Offering up attractive aromas of citrus zest, green apple and freshly baked bread, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and charming, with a demonstrative core of fruit and a pretty pinpoint mousse, concluding with a saline finish. Nicely melded nose even if the whole impression is on the fruity side. Tight and fresh. But with very frank fruit aromas. Slightly drying on the end but brisk and fresh, even if dominantly fruity. (JR)
Notes
Champagne always tastes better out of a big bottle. This is a very good price on this elegant Grand Marque. This cuvée is rich, clean and refreshing. The wine has a lot of pretty green apple fruit, a creamy texture, and elegant, tiny bubbles.
