1999 Pol Roger "Extra Cuvée Réserve" Blanc de Blancs Champagne

A remarkable wine that manages effortlessly to bring together ripe apricot and sweet pear flavors with a balanced maturity that is so delicious. It has power and richness, but there is also minerality and a hint of a chalky texture. (RV)

The 1999 Pol Roger Blanc de Blancs has a beautiful, mature white Burgundy nose of apple, tangerine, a touch of creosote, brioche, really lovely minerality and a topnote of orange zest. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very complex, with a fairly open attack, lovely mid-palate depth and impressive length and grip on the still quite youthful and snappy finish. I really like this wine today, but with a couple of years more bottle age it should really be something special. Fine juice.
