08/1998Notes
While many of California's young wineries, especially those in the Napa Valley, chose to focus their energy on Cabernet Sauvignon, Dan and Margaret Duckhorn bucked the trend, devoting much of their energy to Merlot as a stand-alone wine, not just as a blending grape. Before the "Merlot boom" of the 1990s, Duckhorn was one of the few California producers that were bringing outstanding Merlots to the market. Three Palms was Duckhorn's first vineyard-designated Merlot back in 1978, and it has remained an age-worthy classic in their portfolio vintage after vintage.
