Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2022 Cayuse “Bionic Frog” Walla Walla Valley Syrah (100IWR, 99JS, 98JD), the cult flagship Syrah from Christophe Baron’s legendary estate in the stony “Rocks” terroir of the Walla Walla Valley, aged 18 months in 15% new French oak. Int’l Wine Review writes: “The 2022 Cayuse Bionic Frog Syrah is a mesmerizing and profoundly structured wine that exemplifies both power and finesse in equal measure... Wild lavender, crushed violets, and rosemary intertwine with layers of blood orange zest, black olive tapenade, and smoked brisket... The interplay of richness and tension is nothing short of extraordinary, with a near-endless finish that lingers on notes of graphite, crushed rock, and an umami-driven savoriness. (JY)” (02/2025)

Int'l Wine Review

The 2022 Cayuse Bionic Frog Syrah is a mesmerizing and profoundly structured wine that exemplifies both power and finesse in equal measure. Aged for 18 months in 15% new French oak, this vintage delivers an enthralling aromatic spectrum, where wild lavender, crushed violets, and rosemary intertwine with layers of blood orange zest, black olive tapenade, and smoked brisket. Beneath the floral and savory elements lies a deep, mineral-laced core, reflecting the stony, iron-rich terroir of the Walla Walla Valley. On the palate, this Syrah is electrifying yet gracefully composed, striking a perfect balance between opulence and precision. Waves of black cherry reduction, roasted plum, and fig jam are underscored by hints of smoked paprika, dark cocoa, and balsamic glaze. A vivid backbone of acidity carries the wine effortlessly, allowing the finely woven tannins to provide both depth and an elegant framework. As it evolves in the glass, nuances of white grapefruit zest and charred herbs emerge, adding further intrigue to an already complex profile. The interplay of richness and tension is nothing short of extraordinary, with a near-endless finish that lingers on notes of graphite, crushed rock, and an umami-driven savoriness. (JY)

This has amazing aromas of garam masala and curry powder, as well as green olives and strawberries. Hints of fenugreek and roasted almonds. It’s full-bodied, round and supple, with delicious spicy and peppery layers that build in intensity. Very persistent, with tension at the endless finish. From biodynamically grown grapes.
