1990 Emmanuel Rouget Echezeaux Grand Cru

Some readers may argue that the Echezeaux is as profound as the Vosne-Romanee-Cros Parantoux. Yes, the difference is negligible. Its nose offers up lavish quantities of sweet black fruits, floral, mineral, and toasty new oak scents. The wine boasts great intensity, medium to full body, gobs of black-cherry and black-raspberry fruit, and an opulent, glycerin-imbued, lusciously intense finish. (RP)

Bright, elegant, fresh and deeply complex aromas that are now completely secondary lead to full, round, supple, intense, rich and broad-scaled flavors of considerable breed and stunningly length. This has now arrived at its peak but the balance is such that it should prove to be a 30 to 40 year wine even though the flavors and finish appear quite accessible now. Multiple, and consistent, notes. It's worth pointing out that some bottles evidence quite a bit of gas and the overall effect benefits substantially by decantation.
