2017 Fritz Haag Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese Auction #14

To the muskmelon and Persian melon that dominated in this auction bottling’s “regular” (A.P. #7) counterpart are here added hints of licorice and geranium. The palate impression is lush, glossy and subtly creamy. But one catches enlivening notes of fresh lime and grapefruit, which lend the superbly sustained finish a sorbet-like combination of animation and light tang with soothing creaminess. And here there is also a clarity and suggestion of stony counterpoint that I missed from the A.P. #7. (DS)

Restrained but intriguing nose already well integrated into pure blackcurrant fruit on the palate – almost like a fruit gum! Super-pure and already reasonably ready to broach, however there is no doubt that it will acquire more subtlety in time. 17.5/20 points (JR)
