1982 La Conseillante, Pomerol

One of the most sensual, viscerally appealing wines of the vintage is the 1982 La Conseillante, a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping Pomerol that wafts from the glass with aromas of minty blackberries, raspberry liqueur, black truffle, sweet soils tones and spices. Supple and expansive, with melting tannins and a long, perfumed finish, it's one of my favorite 1982 Bordeaux today. (WK)

The 1982 Château La Conseillante is one of my absolute favorite wines of the vintage. This is not the most powerful or sappy ’82, but it is certainly to be numbered among the most transparent, complex and refined. The stunning aromatic constellation wafts from the glass in a mix of black raspberries, plums, menthol, black truffles, gravelly soil, gentle herb tones and a nice framing of smoky new oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and soil-driven, with a beautiful core of fruit, melted tannins, fine focus and grip and a very long, complex and elegant finish of that classic silky texture of La Conseillante at its very best.
