Bid on this bottle of 1990 Figeac, St-Emilion (96DC, 93VN). Decanter: "One-third each of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, 100% new oak, with a harvest that lasted from 17 September to 6 October. Still deep in colour, and is given a huge boost by the Cabernets. The high sugar and low acidity comes through to give some ripe, almost overripe character with figs and rich berry jam notes. Gentle cold ash and menthol freshness work wonders at the close of play, giving a real boost to the length of the wine on the finish. (JA)" (10/2018)

Vinous

The 1990 Figeac, poured at the château with the Manoncourt family, is similar to several recent bottles. This example retains those aromas of Earl Grey and truffle, perhaps not quite as vigorous as the previous example, yet it grows in the glass. The palate is well balanced, the bedrock of Cabernet imparting quite a Left Bank personality that deceives you into believing it comes from a cooler summer. Builds towards the finish, not as fine-tuned as recent vintages, yet it has presence and salinity on the finish. (NM)
