Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2003 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Wine Advocate: "Abundant notes of roasted herbs, aggressive toasty vanillin and a woodsy character emerge from this medium dark garnet-colored wine that is revealing some lightness at the edge. The Silver Oak Cellars offerings seem far less concentrated and impressive than they did 15-20 years ago. This 2003 reveals a distinctive herbaceousness as well as a nose of Asian spices, black cherries, black currants, spice box and loads of forest floor and underbrush scents. (RP)" (06/2013)

Notes

Silver Oak was founded to focus on Cabernet Sauvignon in 1972 by entrepreneur Raymond Twomey Duncan and winemaker Justin Meyer, and makes two key wines based on their respective AVAs. Tasting notes from the producer: "The 2003 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon has a dark crimson hue with a touch of bricking around the rim. Its aromas lean towards the spicy side to complement its signature fruit, with some peppermint, five-spice, black olive and cocoa alongside traditional blackberry aromas. It has a medium weight, a finely structured entry and finishes with fine and balanced tannins. This is an elegant wine, not a blockbuster. Decanting suggested due to moderate sediment." (02/2021)
