2000 Domaine Louis Jadot Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Amoureuses"

Full red-ruby. Deeply spicy aromas of red berries, woodsmoke and minerals. Big, lush and sweet, with lovely pliant texture kept firm by the wine mineral component and underlying spine. This is dense and mouthfilling, and quite aromatic in the mouth and on the lingering finish. (ST)

The Amoureuses is quite shut down and reticent in this vintage, and is not particularly easy to calibrate. The bouquet is quite complex, though hardly generous or charming at this early stage, delivering notes of black cherry, cassis, woodsmoke, minerals, mustard seed, cedar and a faint topknot of violets, On the palate the wine is deep, intensely flavored and rather medium-bodied, with sound acids, firm tannins, and good length on the finish. This will take a while to blossom, and should be quite a fine bottle of 2000. However, I would love to see the succulence that the Chapelle shows at the core also readily apparent in the Amoureuses at this stage. 90+
