Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1964 Franco Fiorina Barolo (90JG). John Gilman: "This most recent bottle of the ’64 was quite good, offering up a complex bouquet of dark berries, black cherries, hung game, nutskin, a good base of autumnal soil tones, oregano and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and still quite solid at the core, with good soil signature, modest tannins and a long, complex and as I said, gently rustic finish. Good juice and still a fine value when the wines pop up at auction." (09/2022)

Notes

Franco Fioina was established in 1947 and stuck to traditional winemaking methods such as fermentation of up to a month or more with the cap fully submerged. Adhering to those old practices produced wines with exceptional structure to age for decades.
