Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2015 San Polino "Helichrysum" Brunello di Montalcino (97IWR, 97JS, 95DC, 94VN, 93WE, 92RP). James Suckling: "Ripe boysenberries, tar, chestnuts, orange peel, dried cherries and tobacco. There’s a beautiful interplay between the more subtle, citrus notes and darker red fruit, and nothing’s out of kilt to the ripeness. Lots of powerful tannins take the full-bodied palate by storm, coating the mouth in layers of intense but fragrant red fruit and steamrolling this Brunello to a long, chewy conclusion. This is a contrastive wine, built on the foundation of an intricate, wild tannin backbone, but framed in a vibrant and transparent package." (10/2019)

Int'l Wine Review

03/2020
The ‘Helichrysum’ Brunello di Montalcino from San Polino is fabulous effort that offers wonderful characteristics of black plums, blackberries, roasted coffee beans, ripe cherries and toasted hazelnuts. Beautiful tension, while remaining well-extracted and voluminous. On the palate this is full-bodied, with extremely ripe tannins thanks to the important vineyard work and a concentrated and compact finish that take this to another level. Muscular and high-impact. Excellent today, but should start to hit its stride in another year or two.RV
