Cantine Campagnola is one of the historic names in the Veneto, founded in 1886 in Marano di Valpolicella and still based in the heart of the Valpolicella zone. Over more than a century, the family has grown from a local wine merchant into a major producer of regional wines, with holdings and grower relationships across Veneto’s key appellations. The 2017 Villa Rocca Merlot comes from Campagnola’s Villa Rocca line, a collection focused on classic everyday Italian varietal wines. This bottling is made from 100% Merlot grown in Veneto and produced using traditional vinification, including gentle crushing, 8 to 10 days of skin contact, and temperature-controlled fermentation. While Campagnola is best known internationally for Valpolicella and Amarone, wines such as Villa Rocca reflect the broader Veneto tradition, where Merlot has been cultivated since the late nineteenth century and remains an important part of the region’s wine landscape.
