Bid on this magnum of 2016 Fortunati “Fortivo” Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (1.5L), a tiny-production proprietary red from Gary and Ellen Luchtel’s family estate in Napa Valley’s Oak Knoll District, where they planted their vineyards in 2003 and still make most of their wines in lots of just 100 to 250 cases, sold only direct to consumer. Fortivo showcases the estate’s Bordeaux varieties, and the 2016 vintage, one of Napa’s finest of the decade, delivers concentration and structure, with black currant, black cherry, blackberry and kirsch layered with tobacco, black olive, bittersweet chocolate, cracked pepper and vanilla. Broad and rich on the palate, with firm but polished tannins and a long, savory finish, it is built for the cellar and will reward decanting. A rare, collectible large format from a hidden-gem Napa producer, ideal for celebrations and grilled meats.

11/2019Notes
Fortunati is the small Napa Valley producer of husband-and-wife team Ellen and Gary Luchtel, who purchased their Oak Knoll property in 2003. Their vineyard lies in southern Napa Valley, where a comparatively cool climate supports a diverse mix of Rhône and Bordeaux varieties. The 2016 Fortivo combines Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, and Cabernet Franc, reflecting the couple’s interest in blending complementary grape varieties.
