Bid on this bottle of 2002 Domaine Francois Lamarche Vosne-Romanée Grand Cru "La Grande Rue" (92BH). Burghound: "A reserved, even restrained nose that is elegant, pure and ripe as well as still largely if not completely primary with its spicy black fruit aromas that are trimmed in noticeable wood. There is a lovely mouth feel to the rich, full and naturally sweet medium weight plus flavors blessed with solid dry extract levels, all wrapped in a vibrant finish blessed with subtle minerality and impeccable balance. I really like the definition here and there is some backend wood remaining, it does not compromise the overall sense of equilibrium. This is built to age and should easily last for 30 years. Tasted several times recently with mostly consistent notes save for one very dull bottle that never did open up. Those who do not care for oak should note that there is enough here that it is not subtle but as noted, does not change the wine texturally." (10/2015)

Somewhat surprisingly at 20+ years of age, this showed much like a 750 ml example did in 2023: A reserved, even restrained nose is elegant, pure and cool while showing relatively little secondary character to its spicy black fruit aromas that are trimmed in just enough wood to notice. There is a lovely mouth feel to the rich, full and naturally sweet medium weight flavors blessed with fine precision and minerality on the vibrant if still mildly austere finish. Where it diverges from its 750 ml counterpart is that this is still sufficiently youthful that it could benefit from another 5 to perhaps 10 years of age.

Pale but fine and with a still youthful colour. Fine, gentle and fragrant nose with very pretty delicate red fruits, a fraction dry at the back and without quite the persistence of some vintages. Agreeable “plus” but perhaps a touch below par for the vintage.
