Bid on this magnum of 2021 Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru "Champans" (1.5L) ((93-95VN), (91-94BH), 93DC, (90-93JM), 93RP). Vinous: "The 2021 Volnay Les Champans 1er Cru belts out of the glass with blackberry, raspberry and crushed stone aromas, the most vigorous of the Premier Crus at this juncture. Wonderful definition. The palate is harmonious, poised, and demonstrates more substance than the other crus with a slightly confit finish that lingers seductively. This could age magnificently - a victory in a challenging growing season that deserves a hearty applause. (NM)" (11/2022)

A strikingly elegant nose is comprised by notes of pure, airy and cool essence of red cherry, spice wisps and a pretty suggestion of lilac. There is equally good tension suffusing the slightly less elegant medium weight flavors that possess a more refined mouthfeel than usual while delivering first-rate persistence on the austere, chiseled, linear and built-to-age finale. This will definitely require at least some patience as it's quite compact today.
