Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2015 Tenuta Santa Maria Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva, from the historic estate of Gaetano Bertani, whose family has been making wine in Valpolicella since 1850. The estate is based in the walled vineyards around the magnificent 18th-century Villa Mosconi in the Negrar valley. This traditionally crafted Riserva blends Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella; the grapes are dried for four to five months before pressing, and the wine is aged for years in oak before release. Expect baked cherry, dates, dried plum and fig layered with spiced orange peel, dark chocolate, licorice, tobacco and medicinal herbs, with a rich, velvety palate, supple tannins and a long, warming finish. A cellar-worthy Amarone in case quantity, perfect with braised beef, game, risotto all’Amarone and aged Parmigiano.
