10/2004
A most interesting Zin for the exciting line it straddles. Just when you think it's one of those over-the-top residual sweeties, it pulls back. There are a few raisiny notes intermingled with ripe blackberries, but the wine is fully dry, with rich tannins and an earthy finish.

Notes

Founded in 1982, Gary Farrell helped define the early identity of Sonoma’s Russian River Valley long before single-vineyard Pinot Noir became commonplace. Working with growers such as Rochioli, Allen, Hallberg, and Bacigalupi, the winery built its reputation on site-specific Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from some of the region’s most respected vineyards. Today, under winemaker Brent McKoy, the winery continues to focus on vineyard-driven wines sourced from leading Russian River Valley sites, emphasizing careful lot selection and small-scale vinification. Gary Farrell sold the winery in 2005 and is no longer involved in daily operations, but the company maintains the vineyard-focused philosophy established in its early years. Annual production centers primarily on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from long-standing grower partnerships across Sonoma County.
