Bid on this bottle of 2021 Prophet & Poet “Mountain Sage” Sonoma County Proprietary Red Wine, from the debut vintage of one of California’s most talked-about new cult labels, a collaboration between actress Jessica Biel, acclaimed Aperture Cellars winemaker Jesse Katz and Chris and Ariel Jackson of Jackson Family Wines. The vintage earned five 100-point scores, with just 900 cases produced across the label. Mountain Sage is a Malbec-led Bordeaux-style blend of 62% Malbec, 18% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot, drawn from Jackson Family’s prized Sonoma mountain vineyards and bottled unfined and unfiltered, a showcase for Katz, Sonoma’s leading champion of Malbec. Expect blackberry, black plum and boysenberry layered with violet, wild sage, cocoa, black pepper and crushed stone, with a plush, velvety palate, fine-grained tannins and a long, savory finish. A rare, collectible first release from a cult Sonoma producer.

A Malbec-focused blend that captures the wild, refined beauty of Pocket Peak (a newly petitioned AVA in Alexander Valley), Mountain Sage is a wine that reflects intention from start to finish. The 2022 vintage is composed of 62% Malbec, 18% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot. At its core, the wine leans savoury and earthy. The nose is striking: fresh and lifted, with notes of crushed rock, mint, and cool mountain air, making space to delicate perfumes of violets and iris. On the palate, black plums, ripe blackberries, and a whisper of cocoa bring warmth and depth. Velvety in texture, the wine remains firmly structured, with a thread of medium-high acidity that extends into a chic, polished finish. Undeniably cellar-worthy. 180 cases made. (ACQ)

Composed of 62% Malbec, 18% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, the inky purple 2021 Mountain Sage Proprietary Red Wine is ripe and brooding with deep, layered aromas of resinous herbs, black plum, and dark stony earth. Full-bodied, it has a great, plush texture, mocha notes through the palate, and a long finish. Elegance and luxury, all the way through, it harkens more to a Right Bank Bordeaux than Malbec in my mind and is going to age at a very slow pace over the next 20 or more years. 180 cases were produced. 98+
