Bid on this bottle of 2021 Prophet & Poet “Black Crown” Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon, the flagship Cabernet from the debut vintage of one of California’s most talked-about new cult labels. The project unites actress Jessica Biel, acclaimed Aperture Cellars winemaker Jesse Katz and Chris and Ariel Jackson of Jackson Family Wines, and its debut vintage earned five 100-point scores with just 900 cases produced across the whole label. Black Crown draws on Jackson Family’s prized mountain sites, including Christopher’s Vineyard, the highest point on their Alexander Mountain estate, alongside fruit from Knights Valley and Pocket Peak. It is bottled unfined and unfiltered. Expect deep cassis, blackberry and black cherry layered with violet, graphite, cocoa, crushed rock and mountain herbs, with a dense yet polished palate, fine-grained tannins and a long, mineral finish. A rare, collectible first release, built for decades in the cellar.

Sourced from two standout Jackson Family sites: Monolith Vineyard and Christopher’s Vineyard in the Pocket Peak area of Alexander Valley, Black Crown Cabernet Sauvignon (95%) is easily one of the most striking wines I’ve tasted this year. It feels luxurious and indulgent, with deep, classic Cabernet aromas of black currants, pencil shavings, leather, dried herbs, and warm oak spices. Powerful but beautifully integrated. The palate is plush and full, with ripe yet nuanced fruit and incredibly refined tannins. What sets it apart is the acidity at vibrant levels, propelling the wine forward, carrying the palate through a long, unfolding journey. Only 221 cases produced. (ACQ)

Mostly coming from Knights Valley, as well as two plots from Pocket Peak, the 2021 Black Crown Cabernet Sauvignon includes the addition of 2% Cabernet Franc and 1% each of Merlot and Petit Verdot and was aged 22 months in 80% new French oak. Pouring a saturated purple/red hue, the wine is potent and detailed in the glass, with notes of cassis, graphite, polished leather, savory olive tapenade, and spice. Long on the palate, it offers great vertical drive, with balanced richness and a weightless feel. This is built for the long haul and is going to be a wine to hold onto, but it has a great energy propelling through it now. I would be thrilled to have this fantastic red in my cellar. (AF)
