To quote him, -It is designed to offend the wine police.- Dark ruby-colored, with a vibrant nose of sweet black cherries, incense, spice box, a bit of pepper and earth, the wine is round, generous, savory, and all that a delicious, seductive, bistro/brasserie red wine should be. The non-vintage Pleiades XVII is a kitchen sink blend of Carignane, Barbera, Mourvedre, Syrah, Sangiovese, and a touch of Viognier. Thackrey is a like a chef who goes to the market and chooses what is good and available to create something very personal. This is a blend of Pinot Noir, Sangiovese, Mourvèdre, Syrah, Viognier and more. Old vines from different locations. Almost exotic in its mix of fruit flavours. Highly aromatic, a little meaty/bretty in an attractive way that adds complexity rather than 'spoiling' the wine. Red and black fruit compote. Very ripe but not at all overripe. Spicy long finish. Gentle tannins. Subtly flavourful and long. Open-handed and so drinkable. Gentle finish. (JH) 17.5/20 Points
