It is a cool, reserved wine with plenty of Cannubi character. The 2008 is very young, but striking just the same. The delineation, textural elegance and complexity are all first-rate. Good full red. Knockout nose combines red cherry, rose petal, cinnamon, sage and minerals. At once opulent and juicy, with compelling spice and balsamic notes to the wine's sweet raspberry fruit. Wonderfully sweet and precise wine, silkier than the Monvigliero but also showing outstanding grip and lift. In comparison, the 2007 is as long but a bit more gamey.

Love the nose of ripe fruits and spices here that turn to dried strawberries. Full body, with chewy tannins and loads of fruit. Solid and powerful yet polished and reserved. The relatively new vineyard is really coming together.

Scavino’s 2008 Barolo Bricco Ambrogio is an attractive, fruit-driven Barolo endowed with plump dark cherries, plums, violets and spices. Stylistically it is a round, relatively soft wine for the year. The Bricco Ambrogio should offer rewarding drinking with just a few more years in bottle. This is the most accessible of Scavino’s single-vineyard 2008 Baroli. (AG)

The 2008 Barolo Carobric bursts from the glass with racy red fruit. This is a vibrant, beautifully focused Carobric endowed with gorgeous personality and sheer class. The tannins are firm yet beautifully balanced. The 2008 is a fabulous Carobric that impresses for its energy, verve and drive. I loved it. (AG)

A floral, elegant red, smooth in texture and well-muscled with tannins. Black cherry and plum notes hold the center, while the tannins edge their way back in on the finish. (BS)
