Rich, full-bodied, and supple, with outstanding concentration, adequate acidity, and a fleshy, glycerin-imbued, alcoholic finish, this terrific 1974 appears to have hit its peak, but it reveals no signs of decline. The cellarmasters at Simi noticed the pedigree of the 1974 vintage early and kept the best wine back at the winery for longer term aging in barrel. This "Reserve Vintage" was not released from the winery until 1980.
