“Giving up a mineral essence and blackberry reduction on the nose, the 2017 Syrah Component Collection opens with nuances of black spice over dusty blackberries in the glass. Full-bodied, the wine is generous with plenty of mineral tension, baking spices and black pepper focus with bitter black tea and cocoa nibs. “Bright, deep ruby. Musky blackberry, blueberry, animal fur, dark chocolate and graphite on the nose. Smooth, lightly meaty and concentrated, with a charred meat note to the black and blue fruit and cocoa powder flavors. Densely packed, rather round wine with no edges. Youthfully dry and uncompromising but gained in sweetness with aeration. Finishes with a firm dusting of tannins and very good length. Neither particularly sweet nor particularly savory but stands out for its texture and balance. (ST)” (12/2020)
