“The 2016 Prima is all Mourvèdre and, like everything here, spent 22 months in barrel. It sports a seriously inky color as well as incredible notes of blackberries, blueberries, ground herbs, pepper, earth, and crushed rock. These carry over to the palate, where the wine is massively concentrated, with building, polished tannins and a big finish. It has some approachable charm today due to its wealth of fruit, but it’s in desperate need of 2-3 years of bottle age. 95+” (10/2019)

“The 2016 Prima, 100% Mourvèdre aged 22 months in 74% new French, is opaque purple-black in the glass. The nose begins with mint leaves and floral perfume, with a core of cassis, blackberry pie, blueberry and boysenberry plus accents of earth and game meat. The palate is full-bodied, dense, rich and powerful with just enough freshness, finishing long and tightly wound. This needs more time in bottle. (EB)” (02/2020)

Juicy, broad and appealingly sweet, displaying sappy red and dark fruit liqueur, spicecake, mocha and violet pastille flavors that deepen steadily on the back half.
