James Suckling: "This is a step up from the linear and fresh 2006. It shows subtle depth and power with a dense block of vivid fruit that's highlighted by lemon zest, green apples and hints of white peaches. Just the right amount of praline and nuts on the nose. “Always one of the great Champagnes, this comes from a year that is generally regarded as good but not great. And yet, with this Champagne is magnificent. The wine has some good bottle age, hinting at toast while also keeping the tight, mineral edge of a great wine from the Côte des Blancs. *Cellar Selection* (RV)” (07/2019)

“A plentiful, early harvest after a cool and rainy August did little for the reputation of the 2007 vintage. Still, I find that the quality of the Chardonnay this year is often underestimated. The Comtes de Champagne is, with Salon, the wine of the vintage, with an aroma of ripe Golden Delicious apples, lemon peel and linden flowers. There are very noticeable notes of saline minerality, smoke and toast. The wine is approachable and silky textured on the palate, with a lively mousse and rich, mouth-filling plumpness. Int'l Wine Review
“The 2007 Comtes de Champagne has evolved beautifully into a stunning wine that shows incredible class and elegance. It displays remarkable purity and crystalline character as opens to wonderful aromas of lemon oil, asian pear, white flowers, salty minerals and hints of fresh mushroom character which unwind beautifully in the glass. The palate is simply gorgeous, displaying remarkable precision and finesse with a marvelous core of ripe stone fruit which is framed by a stunning combination of acidity and minerality which is in perfect balance. Overall this is an utterly thrilling Comtes de Champagne that is sensational today, but should continue to have incredible future ahead. (JD)” (12/2023)

“The 2007 Comtes de Champagne is just starting to open aromatically, making it a very fine choice for drinking now. Hints of apricot, dried flowers, candied ginger, spice, chamomile, marzipan, brioche and lightly honeyed notes fill out the layers. There's gorgeous textural density and presence to match its generous personality. Soft contours wrap it all together in style. What a delight. (AG)” (04/2025)

“It is funny, after having drunk a beautiful bottle of 2007 Comtes de Champagne that was wide open at a tasting hosted by a friend in October, I pulled a bottle out of my own cellar for Christmas dinner this year, only to find my bottle still tight and really a bit on the young side for current drinking! Perhaps I had a later disgorgement in my own cellar? In any case, while this bottle was not nearly as enjoyable to drink, due to it still being fairly bound up in its lovely structure, its quality remained superb. This more reserved bouquet still offered up a lovely composition of pear, apple, lemon, chalky minerality, warm bread, dried flowers and the first vestiges of upper register smokiness. On the palate this particular bottle is full-bodied, snappy and tightly-knit, with a rock solid core of fruit, lovely mineral drive, utterly refined mousse and lovely length and grip on the impeccably balanced, but still too young for primetime drinking finish. This particular bottle is still a few years away from drinking with the generosity of the last bottle I tasted! (JG) 95+” (03/2025)

“The 2007 Brut Blanc de Blancs Comtes de Champagne continues to show very well, and it hasn't evolved appreciably since I last tasted it a few months ago. Revealing a pretty bouquet of lemon oil, lily pollen, dried white flowers, blanched almonds and crushed chalk, it's medium to full-bodied, chiseled and tensile, with excellent depth at the core, racy acids and a pure, precise and notably chalky finish. Tight-knit without being austere, it's a very classically balanced middleweight Comtes that has a long future ahead of it. (WK)” (08/2019)

Wine & Spirits
“An intriguing 2007, this is 100% Chardonnay from grand cru sites in the Côte des Blancs, a small portion aged in oak barrels, the blend then aged ten years on the lees. Over that time, it developed mature tones of bottle age that add to its vibrant freshness. It’s a grand wine with floral notes of beeswax and nutty tones of yeast autolysis. Age it to let the inherent opulence develop.” (12/2018)

“This is a wine I have followed closely since release and it's definitely one that has progressed impressively, even if it took its sweet time to do so. A relatively restrained and maturing nose reflects notes of cool petrol, green apple, citrus rind, white flower and a hint of yeast character. The beautifully refined and equally restrained middle weight flavors possess a really lovely mouthfeel, indeed it's almost delicate, thanks to the very fine mousse though this is not especially dry on the nicely complex finish, though this is not to say sweet.” (10/2024)

“Very tight and tense with strong lemon-cream notes. Still amazingly youthful. But with sore-throat-healing qualities. Firm acidity and some lime notes. 18.5/20 points (JR)” (09/2024)
