Bottle Size: 750 ml

Provenance: Purchased from reputable sources on release and stored in the home cellar of a CO-based collector. Delivered to K&L via refrigerated transit.

About the Clos, from David Rosoff: "Chardonnay produced from vineyards designated as Premier Cru and Grand Cru are some of the finest and deservedly most expensive wines in the world. But the hard-wired and somewhat outdated borders of these prime plots can be cruel, and some terrific vineyards fall on the wrong side of the road, quite literally. Chateau de Puligny-Montrachet owns just such a plot, called Clos du Chateau, located within the walls of the garden in front of the winery, but across the road from the demarcation line. Unable to label the wine 'Puligny-Montrachet,' Burgundy's most renowned village for white wine, the wine must instead suffer the indignation of the most humble of titles, generic 'Bourgogne'..." Based in Volnay, Domaine Bitouzet-Prieur farms both Côte de Beaune reds and whites, with important white-wine holdings in Meursault. The Bourgogne Blanc is the domaine’s regional Chardonnay bottling, made in the same cellar as the village and premier cru wines, and serves as a useful introduction to the estate’s white-wine program.

88-90pts Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy: "Lovely green and gold, a striking nose, loads of energy, substantial dry extract with excellent acidity, saline even, a note, which Guillaume Boillot feels holds true for the vintage in general. An impeccable example of Bourgogne Chardonnay with impressive length. Tasted: October 2020."

Decanter

A marvellous entry point to the range, this has expressive aromas of ripe apple and fresh white flowers, with just a hint of spice. On the palate, the wine is fresh and surprisingly lively. Produced mostly with grapes from Auxey-Duresses and St-Romain, slowly pressed in a vertical press and fermented in cask (5% new), with most of its lees. Drinking Window 2021 - 2029. (CC) (01/2021)

This year incorporating fruit from Saint-Romain and Monthélie, the 2019 Bourgogne Blanc exhibits aromas of pear, toasted bread and white flowers. Medium-bodied, racy and precise, with a nicely concentrated core of fruit and chalky back-end grip, it's a fine rendition of the appellation and represents a fine value. (WK) (01/2021)

Maison Henri Boillot stands among Puligny-Montrachet’s most exacting domaines, with roots dating back to the 19th century and a modern identity shaped by Henri himself beginning in the 1980s. Farming spans prime villages in the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits, with a focus on meticulous vineyard work and classical élevage. Whites lead the charge. Early picking preserves tension, whole-cluster pressing keeps purity, and restrained new oak frames but never masks site. The style reads bright, mineral, and driven, with Puligny precision delivered across Bourgogne to premier cru. Reds see similar discipline, favoring clarity over weight. These are Burgundy benchmarks that marry detail with drinkability, vintage after vintage.

Burghound

A smoky mix of apple, pear and citrus leads to solidly voluminous and intense middle weight flavors that conclude in an appealingly crisp, clean and very dry finale. This is a very good Bourgogne that should also be capable of repaying a few years of keeping if desired. *Outstanding* (06/2022)

Jeb Dunnuck

No new wood for the generic Bourgogne. Pale lemon and lime, slight sandalwood to the nose. Pure and crisp with a lemon and salty finish, excellent density a little barrel toast. Long finish. This Bourgogne Chardonnay shows typical Boillot purity and precision. (10/2021)
