2010 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru "Les Clos"

Bid on this bottle of 2010 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru "Les Clos" (98JG, 95BH, 95RP, 95ST, 94W&S, 93WS). John Gilman: "The 2010 William Fèvre les Clos is the very finest of what is an utterly stunning array of grand crus from the domaine in this vintage. The nearly perfect nose offers up a complex and youthful mélange of apple, tart orange, grapefruit, flint, stunning, stony minerality, lime zest, smoke and spring flowers. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very pure on the attack, with a properly reserved personality, simply enormous, nascent complexity, a rock solid core and brilliant cut and grip on the snappy, soil-driven and magically long finish. Stunning juice. " (12/2011)

This is developing beautifully with its youthful and absolutely spot on nose that screams Chablis, indeed it could be nothing else but with its iodine, floral, sea breeze and citrus-scented aromas. There is excellent density and power to the well-detailed and mineral-driven medium-bodied flavors that culminate in a driving and strikingly complex finish that just goes on and on. Note that while this could be enjoyed now thanks to the excellent richness, for my taste it's at least 5 years away from its peak. In a word, magnificent. Note further that unlike some 2010s there are no exotic elements to the nose. Tasted on multiple occasions since release and each time has been excellent. (12/2022)

The 2010 Chablis Les Clos is all about understatement and balance. White floral notes meld into white stone fruit in this utterly gracious Chablis. Clos can at times be fleeting and elusive, and there is certainly some of that in the 2010. Still, it is impossible to miss the wine’s textural finesse and sheer overall balance. I will not be surprised if the 2010 continues to get better in bottle. (AG) 95+ (03/2012)

Int'l Wine Cellar

Bright, pale green. Subtle, delicate aromas of white peach, mint, crushed stone and chlorophyll. Less complex today than the Preuses but this is still an infant. All about white peach lifted by white pepper. Fine-grained, silky and utterly vibrant wine, delivering outstanding density and fullness without weight. Great slowly mounting finish promises much more to come. (ST) 95+ (07/2012)

Wine & Spirits

One of the most prized holdings in the domaine, Fèvre owns 10.15 acres on the south-facing hillside of Les Clos, the heart of Chablis’s grand crus. This 2010 is so concentrated and powerful that it’s hard to approach, a deep well of whiteness, of lees and jasmine, lilac and bee pollen, harmony and youthful pallor. (10/2012)

Wine Spectator

A linear, tightly wound white, with apple, melon, lemon and stone flavors. This is intense, balanced and long, offering a steely, chalklike finish. (BS) (03/2013)

This smells more like a minerally Beaune white than a Chablis. Rich, creamy, lightly spiced citrus aromas, thought the austere mineral foundation is still there. Chalky and stony in texture, softened by the creamy oak effect. Powerful but streamlined. The oak is evident but well integrated. Excellent length. 18/20 points (JH) (01/2012)
